Still, Slow
I don't have a garden, not one in the ground
I don't work an urban farm tilling pennies into pounds
I'm harvesting no bounties, no cash crops to be found
But I'm the queen of window herbs, and heavy lies the crown
I still grow
It’s just slow
I pray for plump tomatoes, but flowers will be fine
The mint has gotten out of hand, so too the creeping vine
Their pots have all been commandeered by candles, corners, crime
I've no need for John Deere, please, just water, sun and time
I still grow
It’s just slow
Soil’s not cheap, but I like to eat, so I score some when it's free
Learn to leave what I can't carry, still I buy too many seeds
I know plants die when it's their time, I just can’t take the wait
I won't lie, say I'm satisfied, but it's enough to fill my plate
I grow still
In windowsills
I still grow
It’s just slow
