DAC Makes Local Waves with Award Win
Last month, Drom Artist Collective was honoured to receive a 2026 Champions for Toronto Community Award – a resounding recognition of our efforts to create one of the city's flourishing artistic and cultural community spaces.
Toronto’s Deputy Mayor and Ward 10 Councillor Ausma Malik presented DAC’s co-founders with this award at a ceremony at the Waterfront Neighbourhood Centre on Friday, March 27. Winning in the award’s Arts and Culture category came as a startling yet welcome surprise for the team. Jaws had to be picked up from off the floor.
Less than a year after officially becoming an artist-run non-profit, DAC has proven its invaluable role as one of Toronto’s most important third spaces for the boldest, most original artists in this wonderful city of ours. As co-founder Rashid Mohiddin wrote in a celebratory post, “we know the only truth in life is the truth in our hearts and souls.” It’s a truth that every artist knows well, and we’re delighted that Dromline will feature many such contributors to come.
So, here’s to many more years of heart and soul ahead, and all of you, dear readers, who make that possible!
